Live rugby bonanza this weekend

4th November 2016

There's a huge weekend of rugby in prospect this weekend with eight live games being broadcast on various channels, including the Barbarians v South Africa at Wembley and Ireland v New Zealand in Chicago.

The Barbarians - the famous invitational side - will be captained by New Zealand and Crusaders scrum-half Andy Ellis. Alongside 2011 World Cup winner Ellis, other players with Test experience featuring for the Baa-Baas include his compatriots Seta Tamanivalu and Luke Whitelock and Australia's Taqele Naiyaravoro and Paddy Ryan.

Meanwhile, both Wales and Ireland will have a chance to test themselves against top Southern Hemisphere as they take on Australia and New Zealand respectively.

Ireland will actually be playing their 'home' game in the USA as they meet for a historic one-off Test match at Soldier Field in Chicago.

The match has been organised as part of The Rugby Weekend which will also see the USA Eagles take on the Maori All Blacks at Toyota Park (also being shown live in the UK).

Ireland and New Zealand are expected to pack out the 61,500-seater Soldier Field stadium, which is home to the Chicago Bears NFL team.

The All Blacks have played Ireland on 28 previous occasions, and have won all but one of those matches. Ireland's best result was a 10-10 draw back in 1973.
