Lincoln barman named as runner-up in Stella Artois World Draught Masters
27th May 2014
Stella Artois has announced Nick Kirman from Lincoln (pictured right) as runner-up of the 2014 Stella Artois World Draught Master title.
The Stella Artois World Draught Masters international competition determines the highest level of excellence in delivering the brand’s exacting nine-Step Pouring Ritual. Marjolein Geuens, of Belgium, won in a finale that pitted two of the world’s fastest, most artistic competitors in a head-to-head match.
Nick Kirman was selected to represent the UK after The Strait & Narrow bar, his employer, was selected as one of the best performing Stella Artois Connoisseurs outlets in the country – a programme designed to raise the bar in service standards in premium outlets across the country. He travelled to Cannes last week where he competed against 22 other countries at a lavish final at the beautiful Grand Hyatt Cannes Hôtel Martinez. Nick, who came second, also enjoyed three days of training from the current World Draught Master, Allaine Schaiko, and attended the World famous Cannes Film Festival, of which Stella Artois is a longtime partner.
The World Draught Masters championship is "a celebration of beer-pouring perfection" while the Cannes Film Festival is part of Stella Artois’ “World’s Greatest Events” campaign, a campaign focused on the people whose relentless pursuit of perfection lifts everyday events to a superior level. “World’s Greatest Events” will celebrate the artistry and perfection at events in the United Kingdom, France, Argentina and the United States. Fans from around the world are welcome to join the conversation via the #herestoperfection hashtag.
Debora Koyama, Global Vice President, Stella Artois said: “In the end, Marjolein demonstrated the craft and execution that define a World Draught Masters champion.
“The perfect pour is an expression of respect, both for the customer and the beer. It takes a high level of artistry to master the 9-Step Pour and to deliver it in front of the world. We are thrilled to welcome Marjolein to the Stella Artois family.”
Nick Kirman, UK winner and bartender of The Strait & Narrow pub in Lincoln, said: “Having the chance to be part of the World Draught Masters championship has been fantastic, showing how a quality product should be served and presented has been great. It was really exciting to visit Leuven where Stella Artois originates and I can’t believe I also had the chance to go to Cannes. I hope I made Lincoln and the UK proud.”« Back to News
