City manager Pep Guardiola has steadfastly maintained that he will need time to build his team into a world-class force and so it has proved with a number of disappointing results in recent weeks. Spurs have also experienced major inconsistencies in their performances to date but a win at the Etihad would go some way to setting them up for a good run in the second half of the season.

The year ends with a bang as Liverpool welcome Chelsea to Anfield for a game which could have far-reaching consequences for both sides. If the Blues can win here they will be buoyed with huge confidence ahead of 2017 and will have all the momentum in their favour. A Liverpool win would be a major filip for Klopp’s team.
