England fans drown sorrows at home following Euro 2016 exit

Bad news for pubs was good news for convenience stores on Monday night as English football supporters chose to drown their sorrows at home following the national teams ignominious exit from the Euro 2016 football tournament. 

While there was a 35% increase overall in beer revenues from pubs on Monday compared to the Monday average for June 2015, there was a slump in sales after the defeat to Iceland as punters headed to the shops instead to buy their drinks and convenience stores across the country recorded a 23% increase in sales of alcohol between 10pm and midnight compared to the June 2015 average.  

The results come from a snapshot poll of a sample of pubs and convenience stores from retail tech start-up,
