Community Shield to kick off at earlier time of 2pm to avoid clash with Women's Euro Final

1st August 2017

The Community Shield between Arsenal and Chelsea on Sunday, August 6, will kick off at 2pm this year, an hour earlier than it is traditionally held.

The game, which will be broadcast by BT Sport, will see Arsenal looking to begin the season on a high by beating London rivals Chelsea, just as they did in their last game of the 2016/17 season.

The time change was made earlier in the summer to avoid the possibility of the game clashing with the Women’s European Championship final, showing on Channel 4 on the same afternoon.

England Women are a game away from securing a spot in the final with their semi-final match against the Netherlands on Thursday.

The FA consulted with BT Sport and it was decided a change would be best for all parties with 2pm just an hour earlier than the traditional kick-off time.

Channel 4 is expecing huge interest in the Final if the Lionesses make it past the Netherlands. Some 3.3 million people watched the quarter-final win over France.
