Coming up in March

28th February 2017

Sports4Bars looks ahead to the best live sport coming up during March, including some fantastic UEFA Champions League Last 16 ties and the climax of the 2017 Six Nations Championship

Sunday March 5
1.30pm
Sky Sports 1 HD
Barclays Premier League: Tottenham v Everton
Spurs have hit a rich vein of Premier League form in recent weeks and all eyes will be on Harry Kane whose goalscoring efforts have helped his side move towards the top of the League table. The reverse fixture, way back in August, finished in a 1-all draw.

Sunday March 5
4pm
Sky Sports 1 HD
Barclays Premier League: Sunderland v Manchester City
Manchester City may have fallen out of the race for the title but they remain in the frame for a place in next season’s Champions League. Having beaten Sunderland 2-1 at the Etihad in August, they will be confident of gathering another three points here.

Monday March 6
12.30pm
Sky Sports 1 HD
Barclays Premier League: West Ham v Chelsea
Chelsea have beaten the Hammers twice this season by the same margin of 2-1 – once in the League and then again in the League Cup Last 16 – and will be favourites to win once again. West Ham have improved somewhat since their early season slump and would love to upset the odds at the Olympic Stadium.

Tuesday March 7
7.45pm
BT Sport HD
UEFA Champions League – Last 16, 2nd Leg: Arsenal v Bayern Munich
This Last 16, 2nd Leg UEFA Champions League match will be a tough challenge for Arsenal who lost 5-1 in the 1st leg tie in Munich in mid-February. The Gunners went out at this stage in last year’s competition when they were drawn with Barcelona and will need something of a miracle to reach the quarter-final stages.

Thursday March 9
8pm
Sky Sports 2 HD
Super League: Warrington Wolves v Wigan Warriors
A repeat of last season’s Grand Final as reigning champions Wigan Warriors make the short trip to Warrington. Both sides recently completed memorable victories against top Australian clubs in the World Club Challenge and this should be a really evenly matched encounter.

Saturday March 11
4pm
ITV1
Six Nations Rugby: England v Scotland
Scotland have more reason than usual to be optimistic of their chances at Twickenham this year, having defeated Wales for the first time in 10 years during their last Six Nations outing. However, England will be smarting from their last game – a frustrating, if ultimately victorious encounter with Italy and will be out to put in a vintage performance.

Saturday March 11
5.30pm
Sky Sports 1 HD
Barclays Premier League: Arsenal v Leicester City
With their Premier League title win a distant memory and Claudio Ranieri having departed the scene, Leicester City will be in survival mode for the remainder of the season, despite that sensational win over Liverpool in the first game without their former manager.

Sunday March 12
1.30pm
Sky Sports 1 HD
Barclays Premier League: Southampton v Manchester United
Memories are still fresh of the recent EFL Final at Wembley between these two opponents. Of course, it was Manchester United who held sway on that February day with veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic inspiring his side to a 3-2 win.

Tuesday March 14
12 Midday
ITV
Horse Racing: Cheltenham Festival - Day 1
The start of the annual National Hunt jamboree that is the Cheltenham Festival. For four days, the best jumpers in the world will congregate at the iconic racecourse, watched by a huge crowd each day. Friday sees the Gold Cup, the event's blue riband event.

Tuesday March 14
7.45pm
BT Sport HD
UEFA Champions League – Last 16, 2nd Leg: Leicester City v Sevilla
This could be the end of the road for Leicester City’s European adventure as they travel to Spain in the hope of overturning a 2-1 deficit. Sevilla are currently riding high in the La Liga table, snapping at the heels of leaders Barcelona and Real Madrid, and will be confident of reaching the quarter-finals.

Wednesday March 15
7.45pm
BT Sport HD
UEFA Champions League– Last 16, 2nd Leg: Monaco v Manchester City
Neutrals will be hoping that this Last 16, 2nd Leg encounter reaches the heights of the 1st leg tie which was undoubtedly one of the games of the season. Man City came from behind twice in a thrilling display to win by 5-3 at the Etihad Stadium.

Saturday March 18
2.45pm
ITV1
Six Nations Rugby: France v Wales
The final round of the 2017 Six Nations is here and neither Wales or France have any chance of winning the title after disappointing campaigns. But both will be eager to finish off the tournament on a high and this could be a fine spectacle for spectators eager to watch running rugby.

Saturday March 18
5pm
ITV1
Six Nations Rugby: Ireland v England
The final game of the Six Nations Championship is likely to decide the destination of the title given that Ireland and England have been intermittently impressive throughout the tournament. In 2011, England came to Dublin in search of a Grand Slam on the last day of the season but crashed to a 24-8 defeat.

Sunday March 19
4.30pm
Sky Sports 1 HD
Barclays Premier League: Manchester City v Liverpool
Both sides look to be out of the running for the Premier League title at this stage of the season but will be intent on finishing in the top four of the table. Liverpool have endured a pretty dreadful 2017 so far and will need to improve all over the park if they are to achieve their desired finish.

Wednesday March 22
7.45pm
ITV1
Football - International Friendly: Germany v England
As they prepare for their World Cup Qualifier against Lithuania, England head to Dortmund for this friendly encounter against Germany. The last encounter between the two teams, in Berlin in 2016, saw the Three Lions come from two goals down to win 3-2.

Sunday March 26
5pm
ITV1
World Cup 2018 Qualifier: England v Lithuania
The road to Russia continues as England take on Lithuania at Wembley. The Three Lions met the same opponents during qualification for Euro 2016, beating them home and away by an aggregate score of 7-0, and should be looking for an equally conclusive victory at the home of English football.

Friday March 31
8pm
Sky Sports 2 HD
Super League: Leeds Rhinos v Wigan Warriors
A huge rivalry exists between these two proud sides and the Rhinos will be eager to record a home victory over reigning Super League champions Wigan Warriors. Leeds lost seven home games last season, a statistic they will not care to repeat this time around.
