Champions Celtic to kick-off SPFL season on Sky Sports
6th July 2017
Sky Sports will bring venues Celtic’s opening clash of the new SPFL Premiership season as they begin their title defence against Hearts.
The broadcaster will televise two games from the first weekend of the season, with the cameras at Fir Park on Sunday to see Celtic’s Glasgow rivals Rangers take on Motherwell.
The champions are in action again on Sky Sports on 19 August as they travel to Kilmarnock, a ground that has given Celtic plenty of trouble in the past. August’s live matches are rounded off with newly-promoted Hibernian’s trip to Dundee.
Sky Sports will bring venues up to 42 games this season from the Ladbrokes SPFL Premiership and William Hill Scottish Cup, including every Old Firm league derby. Club members will also be able to see the national team’s final four 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier group matches exclusively live.
Celtic had a historic run to the title last time out, going unbeaten for the duration of the domestic football season to claim their sixth successive title.
But with Aberdeen’s Derek McInnes staying put at Pittodrie despite the lure of offers south of the border, and with Rangers getting used to life back in the top flight, the season should be far tighter this time around.
David Rey, managing director of Sky Business said: “We are excited to bring our customers some of the biggest matches in Scottish football this season, including our exclusive coverage of every Old Firm league derby. Champions Celtic begin their campaign live on Sky Sports, and the quality games and top teams keep coming. Club members in Scotland and beyond will enjoy what promises to be a fantastic season and clubs can look forward to making money from these top games and more.”
Sky Sports is the home of football with 126 Premier League games, 127 matches from the EFL, over 300 matches from La Liga and football from the MLS, Chinese Super League, Eredivisie and much more.
