BT Sport trials Ultra HD in London sports bar
22nd April 2016
BT Sport became the first sports broadcaster to trial Ultra HD at a commercial premises following a screening of the Liverpool v Borussia Dortmund UEFA Europa League tie for media at Belushi’s sports bar in Southwark last week.
A group of VIPs, including licensed trade journalists, were able to watch the epic match - which finished 4-3 in Liverpool's favour - unfold on a number of specially installed Ultra HD screens at the venue.
The new Ultra HD picture format increases the resolution of TV pictures from the 1920 x 1080 pixels used for standard HD broadcasts to 3840 × 2160 pixels.
This means it has four times the amount of detail as HD and eight times as much detail as standard definition.
The technology is based on the Ultra HD standard used for projecting movies in digital cinemas.
To date BT Sport - who launched the BT Sport Ultra HD channel at the start of the 2015/16 football season - has successfully produced and delivered over 60 events in UHD, including UEFA and Premier League football, FA Cup, European Rugby, Moto GP, Squash and NBA basketball.
BT Sport is hoping to offer the service in the future to commercial premises and is exploring technical delivery options.« Back to News
