Bestway aiming to help bars boost family trade
13th June 2016
The school summer holidays are fast approaching, offering operators a big opportunity to boost day and early evening trade by attracting more families in. Bestway Wholesale offers a full range of products aimed at boosting family trade.
Ron Hickey, Bestway Wholesale Catering and On-Trade Sales Director, says: “Parents often struggle to keep coming up with interesting things for their kids to do during the school holidays, so operators who create the right atmosphere and offer for families will be on to a winner.”
He suggests: “Encourage families in with a ‘Kid’s Summer Special’ offer of a main course, ice cream and drink for a set price, or try a kid’s tapas menu with small dishes at a low price for each.”
A kid’s meal package works well for Bestway customer Azaro Indian restaurant in Hove, East Sussex. The restaurant’s excellent value children’s menu offers a main, dessert and a soft drink for £5.45.
Azaro owner Az Raja, who uses Bestway’s premium brand White Pearl basmati rice as an accompaniment to his kids’ dishes, says: “We serve our kid’s dishes on platters to deliver a pick-and-mix feel.
“There is a lot of psychology around kids’ food and if the presentation, flavour and variety is good, it makes them want to eat it, which is what we offer here.”
Bestway Wholesale products ideal for children’s’ menus include Essentially Catering Cod Goujons, Essentially Catering Small Crispy Chicken Fillets and Farm Fresh cucumber and carrots for making vegetable sticks.
Pizzas are always a winner with younger diners and Bestway Wholesale offers a range of frozen pizzas, and also an extensive range of ingredients for caterers wanting to make their own.
For dessert options, Bestway Wholesale offers a range of excellent quality and value ice cream including Essentially Catering strawberry, chocolate and vanilla ice cream tubs(10lt). A range of soft drinks is also on offer. All products are available in Bestway and Batley depots, as well as for free delivery.
Ron Hickey’s tips for school holidays success
- Promote play areas effectively on A-boards, website and social media
- If space permits, offer morning activity workshops such as craft, music or cookery. Use local entertainers so staff can focus on maximising food and drink sales during and after the sessions
- Run an early week night pizza night for families during the school holidays. Offer a ‘customise you own’ pizza option to engage younger diners, with them able to add toppings to their pizzas at their table. A ‘decorate your own’ cookie dessert option also helps keep young diners entertained
- Kid’s movie mornings will also bring in parents for coffee and cake.
