Top sporting fixtures coming your way in September

Sports4Bars.com looks ahead to the biggest sporting fixtures coming up in September with the Premier League and Aviva Premiership rugby taking centre stage.


Thursday September 7

International Cricket: England v West Indies, 3rd Test - Day 1
The final match of this three-Test series gets underway at Lord’s. The last Test victory enjoyed by the tourists at this ground came way back in 1988. 

Friday September 8

Aviva Premiership Rugby: 
Sale Sharks v Newcastle Falcons
A battle between England’s northern rugby union powerhouses. The Sharks will want to make home advantage count against the Falcons.

Premier League: Manchester City v Liverpool
Liverpool had the better of Manchester City in their League encounters last season, beating the Blues 1-0 at Anfield and then matching them 1-all at the Etihad in March.

Aviva Premiership Rugby: Bath v Saracens
Saracens missed out on the domestic title last season after losing to Exeter in the Final and will be aiming to get their season off to a resounding start. Their cause will be helped by the presence of several British & Irish Lions who flourished in New Zealand over the summer.

Aviva Premiership Rugby: Northampton Saints v Leicester Tigers
An East Midlands derby as the Saints take on Leicester Tigers at Franklin’s Gardens. Tigers coach Matt O’Connor, back for his second stint at the club, has promised a more expansive style of play this season.

Premier League: Stoke City v Manchester United
By this stage, United fans will have more than an inkling of how their team will be shaping up this season after some major acquisitions during the transfer window.

Premier League: Burnley v Crystal Palace
Survival will be the chief objective of these two sides this season with neither side boasting the star power of many of their Premier League rivals.

Premier League: Swansea City v Newcastle United
Swansea City enjoyed a late rally in the Premier League last season but with a tough run-in scheduled this time around they may need to accumulate plenty of points in the first half of the season.

Premier League: Tottenham Hotspur v Swansea City
Spurs endured a frustrating time in the transfer market during the off-season but coach Mauricio Pochettino will be satisfied that he has the personnel to challenge for the title again this season. Tottenham enjoyed a fantastic season but faded badly in the final run-in.

Aviva Premiership Rugby: Newcastle Falcons v Saracens
An unusually late kick-off in the Aviva Premiership as this match will see the teams playing a tie in Philadelphia, USA. Although this is officially a ‘home’ fixture for Newcastle Falcons, Saracens were involved in the first Premiership fixture played in the USA, beating London Irish 26-16 in New York in 2016.

Premier League: Chelsea v Arsenal
The two rivals know each other’s strengths and weaknesses inside out having played in the FA Cup Final at the tailend of last season as well as facing off in the Community Shield clash in August. It means this will be another fiery, intense exchange between the London rivals.

Premier League: Manchester United v Everton
The build-up to this game will be huge given the presence of a certain Wayne Rooney on the Everton team. Having spent most of his professional life in the red of Manchester United, the forward will now be desperate to cause them some serious damage. It will be fascinating to see if the switch to the team he supported as a boy.

International Cricket: England v West Indies, 1st ODI
Action from Old Trafford as the first of five one-day international games between England and the West Indies takes place.

Aviva Premiership Rugby: Exeter Chiefs v Wasps
This should be a highly entertaining encounter as the reigning champions host one of last season’s most impressive teams.

Premier League: Chelsea v Manchester City
Manchester City have spent big over the summer and this tie will give Pep Guardiola a chance to see how his squad measures up against the reigning champions.
