Norwich man wins free beer for a year in AB InBev competition

11th October 2017

Norwich local Mark Boast has been named as the first winner of AB InBev's unique competition to win free-beer-for-a-year.

Shop worker Boast, 49, was celebrating after being named as the first winner of brewer AB InBev's newly launched competition.

On Friday, AB InBev announced a new city-wide initiative to give the people of Norwich the chance to win a free, year's supply of its family of Budweiser beers*, or donate the equivalent amount to a charity of their choice (which AB InBev will match).

To win, all locals need to do is get their favourite landlord to install one of Budweiser's brews, made with local barley, on draught in their pub.

Local lager fan Mark became the competition's first success story after convincing his landlord Phil Cutter,46, to install Budweiser and Bud Light at his popular local establishment, The Gardeners Arms. Mark has been a regular at the pub for many years, regularly visiting on match days to watch his favourite football team, Norwich City, and with his daughter to have lunch.

Lucky Mark is not the only one who will reap the rewards of his win, as landlord Phil - who is also a co-chairman of the Norwich City of Ale Festival and has worked at this local watering hole for over 30 years, having started working at the local at the age of 15 - was also treated to two free kegs of Budweiser and a free installation.

Local winner Mark Boast, said: "I think it's a fantastic initiative, and as an appreciator of good-quality lager I jumped at the chance to get involved. I can't wait to start enjoying the prize - it's going to be a very good year!"

Landlord Phil Cutter, said: "I've always been a big fan of Budweiser, as have many of our regulars - but we haven't had it on tap until now, so I think we'll have a lot of pleased punters coming through the doors this week. Few people realise that Budweiser is largely brewed from local barley, so it's a great opportunity for our regulars to sample the labours of our local farmers."

Jason Warner, President of AB InBev North Europe, said: "Budweiser is one of the fastest-growing beers in the UK - growing more than 14% over the past 12 months[1] - with a lot of love out there for the brand, so we felt the time was right to hold one of our biggest city-wide consumer campaigns to date. We can't wait to take Norwich by storm this October. Huge congratulations to winner Mark, landlord Phil and all the regulars of The Gardeners Arms - this Bud's for you!"
