Live sport coming your way in October

2nd October 2017

Sports4Bars.com looks ahead to the biggest sporting fixtures coming up in October including some huge clashes in the pool stages of the Champions League

World Cup 2018 Qualifier: Georgia v Wales
Wales drew with Georgia in the earlier game between the sides back in October 2016 and now face a tricky trip to Tbilisi.

Sunday October 8
5pm
ITV
World Cup 2018 Qualifier: Lithuania v England
England look to be cruising towards qualification, albeit in a fairly uninspired manner, for the 2018 World Cup in Group F and beat Lithuania 2-0 at Wembley in March 2017.

Monday October 9
7.45pm
Sky Sports HD
World Cup 2018 Qualifier: Wales v Republic of Ireland
This is a critical match for the two sides given the delicate balance in Group D which currently sees Serbia in pole position to qualify for the finals and Wales and the Republic of Ireland trailing closely behind.

Saturday October 14
12.30pm
Sky Sports Premier League HD
Premier League: Liverpool v Manchester United
This will be one of the most-hyped games of the month as two of the form teams of recent weeks meet at Anfield. Both teams did extremely well during the transfer window and should produce plenty of attacking football here.

Saturday October 14
5.30pm
BT Sport 1 HD
Premier League: Watford v Arsenal
The Gunners have improved in recent weeks and will be desperate to reassert their authority in the League. Watford are no pushovers though and have looked fairly effective in recent outings.

Tuesday October 17
7.45pm
BT Sport HD
UEFA Champions League: Maribor v Liverpool
Champions League action as the Reds travel to Slovenia. They should have too much all-round quality for their opponents, although Maribor winger Aleks Pihler has proven himself a real attacking threat during the season so far.

Tuesday October 17
7.45pm
BT Sport HD
UEFA Champions League: Manchester City v Napoli
City are looking to finally make the Champions League final this season under Pep Guardiola after some near misses, including being knocked out by Monaco last season.

Tuesday October 17
7.45pm
BT Sport HD
UEFA Champions League: Real Madrid v Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs find themselves in a tough group alongside Real Madrid, German side Borussia Dortmund and Apoel of Cyprus but the Premier League runners-up will be eager to leave their mark on the competition.

Wednesday October 18
7.45pm
BT Sport HD
UEFA Champions League: Benfica v Manchester United
United have plenty of history with Benfica and the Portuguese side sold defender Victor Lindelof to United in the summer while another new boy, Nemanja Matic, also plied his trade for the Lisbon giants. And, of course, Jose Mourinho was Benfica coach in 2000, having previously served as the club’s assistant coach.

Wednesday October 18
7.45pm
BT Sport HD
UEFA Champions League: Chelsea v Roma
Chelsea will relish their return to the Champions League after missing out on European competition last season. The Blues have won two of their four meetings with the team from the Italian capital - a 1965 Fairs Cup win and a 2008 Champions League win on their way to the final.

Thursday October 19
6pm
BT Sport HD
UEFA Europa League: Red Star Belgrade v Arsenal
The Gunners find themselves in the Europa League for the first time in two decades but will no doubt roll up their sleeves and try and reach the knockout stages of the second-tier competition. This trip to Serbia is unlikely to be a straightforward one for the visitors.

Sunday October 22
4pm
Sky Sports Premier League HD
Premier League: Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool
Spurs have discovered that playing their home games at Wembley is a double-edged sword. It is obviously a magnificent playing surface but visiting sides are often inspired by being at the home of English football. Still, there is enough quality in Mauricio Pochettino's side for the team to be challenging for the title once again as they did last season.

Saturday October 28
12.30pm
Sky Sports Premier League HD
Premier League: Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur
This should be an exciting game given the all-round quality of both sets of players. Honours were even between the sides last season, United winning 1-0 at Old Trafford in December and then Spur prevailing 2-1 on their home turf in May. United will be favourites to win this one.

Tuesday October 31
7.45pm
BT Sport HD
UEFA Champions League: Chelsea v Roma
Chelsea host the home leg of this group fixture against Roma. The Italian club’s fans were delighted by their club’s recent record signing, Patrik Schick. The promising 21-year-old Czech international forward joined from Sampdoria and will be a player for Chelsea to keep an eye on at Stamford Bridge during this encounter.
